Cassel Aster

Aster Cassel is a French ceramist. Inspired by the literature of her childhood, numerous artistic currents, mythologies and nature, the artist's work is characterized by pieces revealing a fantastic and unique universe, where illustration plays with both flat surfaces and volumes.

Using her ceramics skills to develop a dreamlike universe, her figurative works are constructed in the manner of “exquisite cadavers”, where each element is conducive to a new narrative, interacting with the previous and the next. These elements form an ensemble of singular creations that invite us to rediscover the wonder of our childhood.

Made in porcelain or stoneware, her sculptures come to life in color as well as in the contrast of black and white, and are often enhanced by the addition of precious metals such as gold and platinum. Aster Cassel plays with materials, textures and opposites, as well as with our feelings and the way we read her story.

A graduate of Visual Arts and Métiers d'arts Céramique, she completed a two-year artistic residency in Antibes before opening her studio in the Tarn region of France in 2018. Her work has been presented in numerous exhibitions and Métiers d'Art shows in France and internationally: “Révélations” (Paris), “Saint-Sulpice Céramique” (Paris), “C14” (Paris), “Art Ceram” (Sèvres) Centre de la Céramique Contemporaine de Giroussens (Tarn), “Résonnances” (Strasbourg), “Musée de Carouge” (Switzerland), “Ceramic Art Andenne” (Belgium), “Cheongju Biennale” (South Korea), Beijing (China). .. His work has earned him several awards, including the “Prix de la Jeune Céramique” in 2022, the “Prix de la Jeune Création d'Ateliers Arts de France” and the “Prix Départemental du Tarn” in 2021, the “Prix Solargil pour Pièce exceptionnelle” in 2019 and the “Prix Jeune créateur d'Occitanie” in 2018.

Solid artistic roots

Trained in the applied arts, Aster Cassel quickly developed a passion for ceramics. After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts, she continued her training with an artistic residency.
