Description

A polychrome ceramic sculpture, circa 1990, signed Charles Semser.

Born in 1922 in Philadelphia, USA, Charles Semser studies painting at the Pennsyylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Barnes Foundation.

In 1981, Semser begins to create ceramic sculptures. After using clay for years to make models for his large pieces, he is gradually drawn to the intrinsic artistic possibilities of the medium. He begins extensive research to develo his own formulas for firing and glazing to achieve precise colors: the "blood red" and " steel blue" for example, so characteristic of his ceramics.
