Raku sculpture entitled “têtue”, dated 2016, unique piece, monogrammed below the base GBG.
For 30 years, Gisèle Buthod - Garçon has been building a body of ceramic work, each stage of which bears the seeds of a subsequent discovery, in a movement from container to sculpture. The diversity of successive advances does not prevent the coherence of a writing style with a thread that is always identifiable: a palette of subtle greys, from the milkiest to the darkest, sometimes blending with yellows, greens or pinks, dresses and reveals forms marked by the presence of the body, in harmony with the initial intention. Gisèle Buthod-Garçon is a lover of enamel, but also draws on her roots in the primitive arts to create pieces of sensual refinement, even on rough surfaces. Her latest work, presented at the Musée La Piscine in Roubaix in 2014, is the expression of a demanding sensibility, which here combines to perfection her qualities of presence, freedom and balance.
