Description

Small vase with a bulbous body in pink glazed ceramic, signed Ruelland under the base. Perfect condition.

Born in 1926, Jacques Ruelland studied painting at the Versailles School of Fine Arts. There he met sculpture student Danièle Dupin, six years his junior and future wife in 1951.

It was in 1952 that the couple decided on the artistic adventure of the earth, which allowed freedom of expression. Together, they complemented their artistic knowledge: Danièle created the form and Jacques decorated it.

After a workshop in Versailles, the couple settled in Saint Germain des Près (rue de Buci) until 1970, before migrating south to a small village, Les Angles, near Avignon.

Their production is characterized by a family of objects that come in different colours and shapes.

The nuances result from the layering of colored glazes. A few shades of glazes worked differently produce an infinite number of nuances, sometimes allowing the color of the clay to show through.

From 1955 to 1980, the couple participated in both sessions of the Salon des Ateliers d'Art, which allowed them to market their work. Settled in the south of France, Jacques and Dani Ruelland dedicated themselves to revitalizing their region.

The couple stopped their production in 1991.
